Step-by-Step Guide


Virtual Science Fair Submissions are now Closed. We look forward to seeing you in August 2005!

This guide will outline all the steps required to participate in the Virtual Science Fair. Read through the following steps before getting started in order to get an overview of the process.

STEP 1:

Read through this web site to fully understand the nature of this Virtual Science Fair. You may download the HLN Virtual Science Fair Information Packet to print and review the information offline.

STEP 2:

Review the Science Fair Resources to get ideas for projects. Choose a project, and write a descriptive summary.

STEP 3:

Register for the Virtual Science Fair, and submit registration fee. Make sure to include any additional forms needed, as described on the Rules & Regulations page. Note: The registration fee for HLN subscribers is waived.

STEP 4:

Complete the research and/or experimentation for your project over 2-4 weeks. Make sure to document your work. Build a display for your project, and write your Project Report.

HLN Virtual Science Fair does not set any requirements for your Project Display. See the Science Fair Resources page for hints and tips on effective project display.

HLN Virtual Science Fair requires the following information to be included in your project report:

  • Project Title
  • Applicant Name
  • Project Introduction
  • Hypothesis
  • Process
  • Results
  • Conclusion
  • Optional: Additional drawings, photographs, charts, or illustrations.


STEP 5:

Photograph your display, and submit your display photographs and project report. All work must be received by the Project Submittal deadline. Work may be submitted as follows:
  • 1 - 5 digital photographs may be submitted to vsf@homeschoollearning.com.
  • 1 - 5 Print photographs may be submitted to Homeschool Learning Network, Inc., PO Box 957, Kihei, HI 96753. Photographs will not be returned.
  • Project Reports MUST BE SUBMITTED ELECTRONICALLY to vsf@homeschoollearning.com. Make sure to include applicant's name within the file.


STEP 6:

HLN Virtual Science Fair will contact you regarding your project status, and provide a web page address for you to view your project.

STEP 7:

HLN will contact you and let you know if you have made it to the final round of judging or not. If you have, a list of questions will be forwarded to you by the judges. You will be required to return your answers to the questions by the announced deadline.

STEP 8:

Final judging will take place according to the dates on the HLN Virtual Science Fair Schedule. Winners will be posted on the HLN Virtual Science Fair website.
